Washed up Lobster Pot - Ladram Bay - Devon

(Click on photo for larger version)

I turned up at Ladram Bay ready for a landscape shot. The sun never burned through the clouds so it wasn't on. I saw this lobster pot floating in the waves off the beach. I took this shot as the backwash covered the pot.

Dunstanburgh Castle - Newton-on-Sea - Northumberland

I waited until the waves washed up past me. The last rays of sunlight illuminated the castle ruin. A 2 second exposure was needed to blur the incoming waves.

Havana Cityscape - Havana - Cuba

(Click on photo for larger version)

An amazing pink sunset in Havana. A 30 second exposure exposed movement in the clouds, and light trails from the cars below.

A old 1950's Dodge - Havana - Cuba

Another wide angle view of the typical Cuban car. It was taken with a small aperture to blur the background.

1950's Chevrolet - Havana - Cuba

A recent trip to Cuba gave me the opportunity to photograph Havana. This old 1950's American car (no idea what make) was sitting sadly on the side of the road with blocks as wheels. I took it with my 17-40mm lens , practically toching the car with the front of the lens. I waited until a car came past to give the photo some movement. A old woman told me in spanish that it was a piece of rubbish, and couldn't understand why I was taking a photograph of it. I hope you can!

St. Peter Port Lighthouse - St. Peter Port - Guernsey

(Click on photo for larger version)

Another shot from Guernsey. As the sun came up it produced a beautiful orange colour in the sky. I underexposed in order to capture this orange hue producing a silhouetted lighthouse and reflection, with the fisherman dangling his rod over the harbour wall.

Hard Earned Cash - Tsim Tsa Tsui - Hong Kong

(Click on photo for larger version)

I saw this beggar on the streets of Kowloon. His back was so hunched over that I never saw his face. I took this shot as he tottered past me. I have submitted coursework analysing this particular image in HUGE detail. I took the photo for aesthetic reasons only and will let the viewer decide what it conveys!

Washing Ledge - Kimmeridge - Dorset

(Click on photo for larger version)

The waves lapped over my tripod and feet as the tide rose. A 30 second exposure made the water appear "glass" like. This particular part of the ridge is visible at high tide. I had to wait until the the tide coincided with sunset hours in order to get this shot.

Lihou Island - Guernsey

(Click on photo for larger version)

The previous wave crashed onto the rock in the foreground, soaking my entire equipment. Camera, filters, clothes! After a few minutes cleaning everything, I captured this shot as the wave receded.

These types of shots are all about timing. I had to wait for the right wave, too big and it would hide Lihou Island in the background, too small and it would not have had the same dramatic impact. Timing is essential to get close enough to the action to give the viewer a feeling of being in my shoes, and getting out of the way in order not to scooter home soaked. Haven't perfected that!

Fort Grey - Guernsey

(Click on photo for larger version)

As the sun went down the tide rose. I timed this shot as the wash came up the slip-way over my tripod. As it descended down the slip-way I took the shot. The exposure was 8 seconds, blurring the water and boats.

Spring Lambs - Kimmeridge - Dorset

(Click on photo for larger version)

This was taken near Kimmeridge in Dorset. I stopped the car and lay down poking my camera through the fence. The young lambs ran over to see who/what I was. They stopped for a brief moment lit by the afternoon sun and I took the shot.
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to my blog. I will update this whenever I can with news that comes past John Alexander Photography.
I will talk about my recent photographs, where they were taken and how they were taken. I will also inform you of any photography projects I may have.

I am off to Guernsey tomorrow to take seascapes of the island. I am going for 5 days so will hopefully come back with some good images to upload onto the website. The weather forecast looks particularly unpromising although I am always optimistic!!
